PRIVACY POLICY

NeoTanker, by Fair Games

The short version

NeoTanker stores what it needs to run your online games, and records how the game is played so that we can improve it. No advertising, no cross-app tracking, no data sold to anyone. Playing against the computer or with a friend on the same phone needs no account. The one thing that happens in every mode is the session recording described below.

What stays on your device

Your settings and your saved games against the computer are stored on your phone by the game itself. Deleting the app deletes them.

A copy of the move log of your games against the computer or with a friend (the moves played, not the screen) is also sent to our server, so that it is not lost and so that we can study how the game is played and improve the computer opponent. It carries your player identifier and is deleted with your account. These games, like your online games, appear in the LAST GAMES list of your profile, which every player can open: the map, the opponent, the turn and the result, and a finished game can be replayed by anyone. Campaign missions and puzzles are not shown.

What our server stores when you play online

Online games are run by a server we operate. To make that work, it keeps:

When your profile is sent, the server also notes the internet address it came from, next to your profile. Only the developer can see it, to tell real players from test devices.

We also keep a log of what happens in the app, with the time of each event: a game started or finished against the computer, a mission started or won, a game created, joined or watched online, a message sent, a friend added. The app also notes, for the same purpose, technical details of each session: the app version, the phone model and system version, the screens opened and the buttons tapped, when the app goes to the background, sign-in errors, freezes and crashes. It is used by the developer alone, to see how the game is played and to find and fix bugs, and the log of a deleted account no longer names anyone. Our server's technical logs record the internet address of each connection for a short time, for security, like every server on the internet.

Chat, messages and moderation

Messages you send, in the public chat, in private messages and in a game's chat, go through a filter that replaces a short list of insults with stars before anyone sees them. Every message and every profile has a REPORT button, and every player can be blocked from the profile screen: a blocked player can no longer write to you nor add you as a friend. Reports reach the developer immediately. A player who abuses the chat can have a message removed and be muted, for a day or a week. Abuse can also be reported by email at marc@neotanker.app.

Session recordings

To see where new players get stuck and to catch bugs we cannot reproduce, the game records your sessions with Smartlook, a session replay service operated by Cisco. A recording is a low frame rate video of the screen (four images per second), the places you tap, the names of the screens you visit, and a few game events (a mission started, a game won, a rematch asked). It is sent over Wi-Fi only, when the app goes to the background.

Smartlook also notes the model of your phone, its system version, the version of the app, and the approximate location (country and town) derived from your internet address. If you are signed in, the recording is labelled with your display name, your player identifier and the email address of your account, so that we can connect what we see to a bug report or a feedback message. The ACCOUNT screen is blacked out in every recording: what you type there is never filmed.

Recordings are kept by Smartlook for one month, then deleted automatically. They are used by the developer alone, to improve the game, and for nothing else: no advertising, no profiling, no sharing. To have your recordings deleted sooner, write to marc@neotanker.app.

If you sign in with Apple or Google

Signing in is optional. It exists so that you can find your account again on another phone. When you sign in, Apple or Google gives us a stable identifier for your account and your email address (with Apple, you can choose to hide it behind a relay address; we never see your real one). We store both, and use the email for nothing except identifying you if you write to us, and to label your session recordings (see above). We never send you email, and we never share the address with anyone else.

We use no other sign-in method and we never see your Apple or Google password.

Deleting your account

In the game, open Account and choose Delete account. Your player identifier, your name, your email, your notification token, your chat messages (public, private and in games), your friends and blocks, the reports you made, your suggestions, your feedback, the move logs of your games and your NEOVERSE city are erased from our server immediately, your maps are withdrawn from the catalog, your ongoing games are forfeited, and if you signed in with Apple we tell Apple to revoke the link, so NeoTanker disappears from the list of apps using your Apple ID. Finished games stay in other players' history without your name. Session recordings made before the deletion stay at Smartlook until their one month expires; write to us if you want them removed at once.

You can also write to marc@neotanker.app to ask what we hold about you, or to have it deleted.

Third parties

The game embeds no advertising network and no social media kit. The third parties involved are: Apple and Google for sign-in and notifications, under their own policies; DigitalOcean, which hosts our server in the United States; and Smartlook (Cisco), which stores the session recordings described above, under its own privacy policy.

If you install the game from the App Store or Google Play, those stores collect their own data about the download under their own policies. We receive nothing personal from it.

Children

The game shows mild cartoon violence and carries the age rating displayed on its store page. We do not ask for your age, and we collect nothing from anyone beyond what is listed above. A game's chat is visible to the players and spectators of that game; the public chat on the title screen is visible to every signed-in player, and is moderated as described above.

Changes

If the game starts storing something new, this page is updated before that version ships, and the date below changes.
